Storefront Advocacy Centers

Storefront Advocacy Rights centers are the anchor of our activities. These centers, in Jerusalem, Beersheva and Lod, served over 7,000 individuals in 2007. Storefronts are staffed by volunteers together with community workers. The volunteers are residents who have come for assistance with their own problems, become empowered to where they are eager to help others in similar situations. This empowerment comes out of the basic philosophy of the Storefront. It is not there to solve problems for people, but to solve them with people. The entire process- whether drafting letters, making phone calls, appearing before committees - is done with the participation of the client. This process enables the resident to acquire the knowledge that he or she can solve problems, and is not just a passive cog in the system. The Storefront Centers also offer legal clinics, staffed by volunteers, every two weeks for those needing legal clarification and guidance. Thus legal skills and knowledge are made accessible to the community.
